Revisions arrive

My latest set of revisions have arrived. In some ways they are challenging, but in many other ways, they are easily doable.

I do hate it when my editors use the pat phrase -- I know this looks like a lot of hard work. Actually for me, revisions are the fun part. The hard work is the waiting. Finally with revisons I have some sort of direction and can concentrate on what works and what didn't and finding a way around my editors' concerns.

The point is that they do see the potential in the book and think it could be a very strong book.

It is an odd thing about writing -- the challenges for every writer are different. What is hard work to one is plain sailing to another. The important thing for me is that my editors have the faith in me that I will get it right.

I agree...having a direction and knowing what you need to do takes a lot of the hard work out of it. I enjoy revisions. It is the waiting that is hard! :-)

Have fun!

Revisions are never simple - they involve incorporating someone else's objective opinion into the very personal imaginary world we have created and that isn't always comfortable.

What matters is the attitude you take - and yours - seeing them as a way to make a good book a stronger one by 'concentrating on what works' will always win out.

I know Our Editor (and others) will have faith in you - just as I do. A good writer is one who knows how to work with her editor and still keep her own unique voice.

Good luck

I don't mind revisions when I look and think about them, 99.9 percent of the ones I've ever had have been so obvious I felt like smacking myself for not having seen what I should have done before I sent the mss in, but of course you never do.
