Update

I broke down. I ordered the books.
All I can say is that my daughter had best study over the half term.
Sometimes, I am an indulgent parent.

Oh, I'm mad now! I ordered mine over a month ago and they have yet to arrive. I e-mailed to chase and haven't heard a word.

ARGH!

And PS...I NEVER consider buying books indulging my kids. Many things, yes, but reading is such a habit to be fostered I order guilt-free.

When they want a book, they get a book. I'd rather indulge that than a toy or candy. A book is a gift that keeps on giving.

You did the right thing, Michelle.

Have to admit, I am a soft touch when it comes to books. I love seeing their faces light up when they get a nice pristine paperback - but even more I love it when they finish a book and come to talk to me about it. Just fab.

(It seems I am as bad with music. Or maybe I'm just celebrating having email again after three days without, this week...)

I read the first one in an afternoon, and the other three within a week. They're quick reads. The first one is good, the other three not so much, but they do suck you in.

You were right to get her the books. You're not just giving her Edward and Bella's story, you're giving her the message that reading is valuable, for pleasure and for work.

I'll be interested to see what you and K. think. As a writer, I was too analytical to enjoy Meyer's plotting and was often frustrated with how she killed conflict.

They arrived this morning.

She is very happy and has agreed to work hard on her French. She is halfway through book 3.

I will let you know Julie on what I think.

Ah, now that's a good idea. Books/music as carrot.

Somebody needs to pull his socks up in his arts subjects and languages... That will be the deal. Halo 3 soundtrack in return for working harder :)
